James A. Stewart, 86, of Norwalk, Ohio passed after a lengthy illness Tuesday, March 19, 2013, to be with his heavenly Father.

He was born to the late Charles F. and Harriet (Allen) Stewart on July 12, 1926; the youngest of five children.

A lifelong resident of Norwalk, Jim was called to serve his country while still in high school. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater in 1945 on the island of Okinawa. After the war he returned to Norwalk to marry the love of his life, Annabell, on August 25, 1951; A marriage lasting 62 beautiful years.

He was employed 37 years at Clevite-Harris in Milan, Ohio, retiring as a supervisor. After retirement, he worked at the new Ernsthausen Recreation Center at the front desk. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, serving many years as an usher. He also served as a trustee on the Norwalk Public Library Board, and on the Norwalk Park and Recreation Board. Jim was the President of the Huron County chapter of the NAACP, and served as a member of the human relations board of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, a member of the progressive Masonic Association of Sandusky, Ohio, and a member of the Ohio Umpire Association.

Jim's greatest joy came from his family, and he enjoyed having family vacations. During baseball and softball seasons he was more often than not, behind the home plate at Norwalk's VFW and McGuan Park as an umpire. He loved sports and played football and baseball for the Norwalk Truckers. He enjoyed traveling to Columbus for the high school basketball tournaments, and was an avid University of Michigan fan.

He is survived by his wife Annabell, two children, both of Norwalk, Pam White (Curtis Jones), and Michael Stewart (Katia Castile), four grandchildren, Aja, Chad, Caela, and Annabella Stewart, one great grandson, Noah Stewart.
