Donald J. Schropp

Donald J. Schropp, 95, of Sandusky and a resident of the Commons of Providence for the past 10 years, died Monday morning, May 27, 2013 in the Stein Hospice Care Center following a brief illness.

He was born September 20, 1917 in Sandusky and was a 1937 graduate of St. Mary's High School. Don was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, serving in the European Theater of Operation, with the 107th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years as a mail carrier. Prior to this, he had worked at the former H. & S. Bakery and Universal Clay Products. Donald was a life long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky and he loved doing yard work and gardening.

He is survived by four nieces: Carol (Ted) Homberger of Sandusky, Sharon Bittner of Berlin Heights, Linda (Craig) Rudolph and Debra Schropp, both of Sandusky, numerous great nieces and nephews, great great nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur & Helen (Homberger) Schropp and two brothers: Richard Schropp and William Schropp.

Friends may call Monday, June 3, 2013 from 9:00 AM until time of a Christian Mass of Burial at 10:00 AM at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky. The Rev. Joseph Steinbauer will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
