Roy Hollingshed

Roy Hollingshed, 62, Jeffersonville, Indiana, was called home Monday, August 26, 2013 at the home of his sister, Maxine McGee in Sandusky.

Roy was born on March 27, 1951 in Starkville, Mississippi to the late Jack and Ella (Spencer) Hollingshed.

He attended New Prospect High School. Roy moved to Sandusky in 1966 and was employed by the Barr Rubber Co., Farrel Cheek, and worked 25 years at the Lorain Ford plant. He retired from the Kentucky Ford plant in 2006.

He was a faithful member of Little Flock Missionary Church, Louisville, Kentucky, where he was the church's Senior bus driver, taking the senior citizens on trips , and he served as the gardener for the church.

Roy's passion was working on cars and doing yard work. He loved a beautiful yard and having beautiful plants and flowers. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing softball, and most of all travelling.

Roy never knew a stranger. He was always helping those in need, whether financially or physically. He was loved by everyone who knew him.

Roy is survived by his daughters, Glenda Childs, Starkville, Mississippi, Vanessa Farris, and Dawn Hollingshed, both of Sandusky; son, Ryan Hollingshed, Sandusky; 17 grandchildren; one special grandson, Ryan Hollngshed, Jr., who was there for him every day of his illness; brothers, Joe Edwards and William (Jimmie) Hollingshed, both of Memphis, Tennessee, Stanford (Carol) Hollingshed, West Point, Mississippi, and Clifford Hollingshed, Starkville, Mississippi; sisters, Maxine McGee, and Nancy (Jacob) Keys, both of Sandusky, Gloria Moore, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Ann Hollingshed and Veronica Duncan, both of Starksville, Mississippi; special niece, Stephanie Hollingshed, and special nephew, Rick McGee; special friends, Frank and Sheila Derrick, Betty Bell, Junior Woods, Dottie Mabuary, and his massage therapist, Sherry Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, LeFlore and Mclester; and sisters, Bettyrae and Jennie.

At Roy's request visitation will be Sunday, September 1, 2013 from 6-8 P.M. in the Little Flock Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. He will be transported to Starkville, Mississippi for burial with his family.
