Deacon George C. Stepanic, Sr.

Deacon George C. Stepanic, Sr., 77, peacefully returned home on Friday, August 30, 2013.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judith A. Stepanic (nee Joseph), daughter Mary S. Peterson (John) Hudson, Ohio, Dr. George C. Stepanic, Jr. (Gloria) Fremont, Ohio, Jane V. Kato (John) Gahanna, Ohio, Matthew J. Stepanic (Colleen) Springfield, Pennsylvania, by his grandchildren: Joshua Stepanic, Catie and Anne Peterson, Hanna, Ava and Grant Stepanic, Cajetan, Jacy and Cody Kato and Olivia Stepanic, sisters: Rosemarie Polakowski and Patricia Stafira (Stan), sister-in-law Martha Stepanic, by his brother, Timothy Stepanic (Joyce), and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents Adam and Veronica Stepanic, brother, Adam J. Stepanic, brother-in-law, Raymond Polakowski, Sr., and infant son Steven Stepanic.

Deacon George was born on August 1, 1936 in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania. He graduated from East Huntington High School and was awarded a 4 year football scholarship to Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio. Deacon George served in the United States Army, retiring as a Captain. In 1960, after graduating from Xavier University, he began working for the Ford Motor Company as part of their Management program. Toward the end of his 34 year management career with Ford, he began his five year journey to become a Permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church for the Diocese of Toledo. Deacon George served the parishioners of Sandusky St. Mary's Parish before he began ministering to the parishioners of St. Alphonsus Church, Norwalk, Ohio.

An avid outdoorsman, Deacon George loved hunting, fishing, boating, the Steelers, Buckeyes and trips to Medjugorje. He was devoted to his family, parishioners and friends. Deacon George especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play on the Stepanic Family Farm.

Visitation will occur at St. Alphonsus Liguori Church, 1360 Settlement Road, Norwalk, Ohio on Monday, September 2, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Most Revered, Leonard Blair, Bishop of Toledo, will preside at Deacon George's Funeral Mass with concelebrant Reverend William Pifher at St. Alphonsus Liguori Church on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at 11:00 a.m.
