Jere B. Christman, 72, of Bellevue passed away early Saturday morning, October 19, 2013, in the care of Stein Hospice after a hard fought battle with cancer.

The third of four children born to the late Raymond and Helen (Hadsell) Christman, he was born at home on May 11, 1941, which happened to be Mother's Day.

He grew up on Route 99 north of Monroeville and graduated from Monroeville High School in 1959. In high school he ran track and played on the basketball team.

Jere retired from the Norfolk-Southern Railway in 2002 after 39 years of working as a switchman-brakeman, conductor, an official in the safety department, and conductor-pilot for Maintenance Away.

He enjoyed many interests which included general contracting, the civil war, NASCAR, working on cars, cheering for the Steelers and cooking for his family. He was an avid reader always searching for new information concerning his interests and always looked forward to his yearly trip to Hilton Head.

On August 15, 1964, he married his best friend, Marsha (Hensinger) Christman. This year they celebrated their 49th Anniversary.

In addition to his wife, Jere leaves behind what he considered his greatest accomplishment, a son, Chad (Amy) Christman, Marietta, GA; a daughter, Nicole (Clint) Hawkins of Smyrna, GA; and five grandchildren, Kennedy and Landry Christman and Walker, Harlow and Sailor Hawkins. Completing the family are siblings, Ray (LaDonna) Christman, Monroeville and Susan (Randy) Wolf of Louisville, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy.

In honor of his wishes a celebration of Jere's life will be held Thursday, Nov 14, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 428 Kilbourne Street, Bellevue, OH.

Donations in memory of Jere can be made to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.

Arrangements are in care of Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue, OH
