Paul Edward Koch, 87, of Sandusky, Ohio passed away peacefully at the Stein Hospice Care Center following a brief illness on Tuesday, November 19, 2013.
He was born on November 6, 1926 in Sandusky, Ohio.
He was a 1945 graduate of Sandusky High School and a 1951 graduate of Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. He was a U.S. Army veteran. In 1951, he married Patricia A. Bauer of Tiffin, Ohio and they were together until her death in 2008.
He was a lifelong sailor having won the Interlake Sailing Class Association National Championships three years in a row. He continued sailing and boating most of his life. He was a past commodore and Life Member of the Sandusky Sailing Club and a Life Member of the Interlake Sailing Class. He also served several years as a USYRU Judge. He was Owner and President of KelKo Products Company of Sandusky, Ohio until his retirement in 1981. He was a recipient of the "Nick Of Time Award" for saving the lives of two ice fishermen who had fallen through the ice on Sandusky Bay.
He is survived by his sister, Ann Copley of Lynchburg, VA; four sons, Mark (Pat), Matthew (Lori), Brian (Karen), Curtis (Janet); ten grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis M. and S. Inez (Rhineheimer) Koch and his wife, Patricia A. Koch.
At Paul's request, there will be no viewing hours. Services will be held on December 6, 2013 at 10:00 am at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Sandusky, Ohio with interment to follow at Oakland Cemetery. A celebration of his life will follow at the Sandusky Sailing Club. The Groff Funeral and Crematory in Sandusky are handling the arrangements for the family.
