Robert Lynn Smith

Robert Lynn Smith, 59, residing in Sandusky passed away early Sunday morning at the Stein Hospice Care Center following a lengthy illness.

He was born on June 1, 1954 in Fremont, Ohio to the late Willie R. Smith and JoAnne (Wolf) Johnston.

He was a 1972 Graduate of Sandusky High School and received his associate's degree as a Millwright from Terra Community College. Robert was a U.S. Air force veteran serving during the Vietnam War stationed in Thailand. He retired from the Sharkey Transportation Company in Quincy, Illinois and the local U.A.W and had formerly worked at Vulcan Materials and Thacker Aluminum.
He was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders and served as State Captain for many years, American Legion post #83 and the Amvets post #17. Robert enjoyed fishing, touring on his motorcycle with his wife Sue Ann, was a avid pool player serving as President of the Cue Club, and most of all spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Robert always went out of his way to help his family, friends, strangers and animals.

Robert is survived by his wife Sue Ann (Sevenbergen) whom he married on August 28, 1993, two sons Joshua (Angie) Smith of Sandusky; and Mark Smith of Clarksville, Tennessee, two daughters Christina (Christopher) Gardner and Amy Ryan both of Sandusky, eight granddaughters, seven grandsons, one sister Debra (Edward) Stonerook of Sandusky, two brothers Jason Johnston and Micky Smith both of Sandusky, his step mother Betty Woodruff of Sandusky; four step-sisters, two step-brothers and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Including his parents he is preceded in death by his step-father Norbert Johnston.

Friends may call on Wednesday November 27, 2013 from 10AM until time of funeral services at 1PM in the Groff Funeral Home and Crematory 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. The Pastor B.R. Hatfield of the Venice Rd. Baptist Church will officiate.
