Harry "Leon" Kimberlin

Harry "Leon" Kimberlin, 67, of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday evening, December 15, 2013 in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born on August 30, 1946 in Coeburn, Virginia to the late Harry J. Kimberlin and Kathleen (Ellis) Kimberlin Lombardy.

Leon was a truck driver for many years, working for several companies. He was recently employed by KBI as a setup man. He was a U.S. Marine Corp combat veteran, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam and Cuba. He was honorably discharged on December 18, 1969, and he resided in the Ohio Veterans Home at the time of his passing. He was past commander for AMVETS Post 17, a member of the Ohio AMVETS Department Honor Guard, and was instrumental in moving Post 17 to its current location. He was also a lifetime member of numerous veteran and fraternal organizations. Leon was a pilot and also enjoyed flying, motorcycling, and boating. He loved fixing anything with a motor or wheels. Most of all, Leon was loved by his family. He was the storyteller, and loved being with his family and friends.

Leon is survived by his son, James M. (Beth) Kimberlin, of Bellevue; grandchildren, Noah Downing, Megan Kimberlin, and James W. Kimberlin; one great-grandchild, Maxxwell; sister, Nancy (John) Hahn, of Sandusky; nephew, Jeffery (Dawn) Hahn; niece, Amie (Tim) Parry; and several cousins, aunts, and uncles.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Lee Kimberlin; and grandparents, Garfield and Angie Ellis and Addie and Jay Kimberlin.

Friends may call from 10 A.M. until 1P.M. on Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Ohio Veterans Home, Giffin Chapel, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Military funeral services will be at 1 P.M. Rev. Paul Birmingham will officiate. Burial will follow in the Ohio Veterans Home Cemetery.
