Marie L. Rockwell, 93, residing in Milan, Ohio passed away Saturday morning, March 29, 2014 at Fisher Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, Ohio following a brief illness.
She was born November 30, 1920 in Kings Mills, Ohio to Eugene Zimmer and Ellen (Foulk) Zimmer.
Marie received her nursing degree from Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. She then began working for Dr. John R. Mellen in Milan, Ohio retiring after more than 30 years of service as a Registered Nurse.
She was a member of the Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, and the Milan Mothers Club. She was a former Cub Scout Den Mother, Campfire Girl Leader and Sunday School Teacher. Marie enjoyed playing scrabble, collecting paperweights, gardening, bird watching, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Roberta (Don) Gfell, Fred (Connie) Rockwell, both of Milan, Ohio and Bruce (Marlene) Rockwell of Huron, Ohio; six grandchildren, Greg, Ann, Rob, Ryan, Deana and Jim; twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Including her parents Marie is preceded in death by her husband Robert F. Rockwell in 1978 and three sisters Emily Espy, Jean Hobbs and Ernie Rogers.
There will be no visitation. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday April 5, 2014 at 11AM in the Edison Memorial United Methodist Church 10 E. Church St. Milan, Ohio. Dr. Dale W. Thomas Pastor will officiate. Burial with family will follow in Milan Cemetery. A luncheon will be served in the church basement.
The Groff Funeral Home Milan Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
