Dale Wayne Whitacre

Dale Wayne Whitacre, 88, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born November 11, 1925 in Lodi, Ohio, to the late Roy and Anna (Baughman) Whitacre.

He graduated from Lodi High School in 1943, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Dale married Loretta Fisher on June 1, 1949, and would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this June. Dale worked at Fisher's Market in Norwalk, Ohio, for 58 years before retiring in 2006 at age 80. He was an avid hunter and was well known in the area as an excellent fox trapper. He also enjoyed horse races, playing poker, farming and raising hogs. Dale played dartball in the area for 40 years, and was a Cleveland team's sports fan. He was always a generous man, had a constant sense of humor, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Dale is survived by his loving wife, Loretta, by four children, Joe Whitacre of Euclid, Ohio, Jane Straub of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Mary Kay Lesch (Bob Kennedy) of Norwalk, Ohio, and Bob (Pat Schafer) Whitacre of Norwalk, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeannine, Matt (Jen), and Joe (Lisa) Lesch, Eileen Whitacre, Theresa Antal, Diane (Bruce) Lightfoot, Rick (Katie) Straub, Chris (Andy) Baker, Katie Straub, Pat Straub, Tony (Nichole) Whitacre, and Alysha Whitacre. Dale is also survived by 9 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, James, Raymond, John, Claude, and Fred Whitacre, by his son in law, Gary Straub, by his great grandson, David Matthew Straub, and numerous other family members.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 1322 Settlement Road, Peru. Rev. William Pifher will officiate. Inurnment will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery with a luncheon to follow in the social hall to celebrate Dale's life. Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio is in charge of arrangements.
