Thomas Leon Amicarelli

Thomas Leon Amicarelli, 83, of Norwalk, Ohio, went to be with his Lord on May 18, 2014.

He was born April 22, 1931 in Wooster, Ohio, to the late Joseph and Mary (Grande) Amicarelli.

Tom joined the U.S. Marines in 1949, and was promoted to Sergeant in the Military Police in Puerto Rico during the Korean War. Tom followed his dreams to Sandusky, Ohio. In 1953 he started his career with the Erie County Sheriff Office under Al Hess. He became Chief of Police in Perkins Twp. In 1967. Tom returned to the Erie County Sheriff office in 1971, and worked his way up to the Commander of Patrol. Lieutenant Amicarelli was in charge of the afternoon shift and the qualifications classes for Firearms Training for many counties. He was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Sandusky, Ohio, F.O.P., the National Fraternal Order of Police, the Ohio Buckeye Sheriff, N.R.A., was a life member of Sandusky American Legion Post #83, the Marine Corps League, and Sandusky & Huron Golden Age Eagle Lodge #2875. In his retirement he enjoyed working at the Milan Gun Store, dancing with his wife, and being with his children and grandchildren, telling them colorful stories of his experiences in life.

Tom is survived by his wife, Linda (Owen) Amicarelli; Sons, Joseph, Elyria, Ohio, John (Jean) Gentry, Jimmy (Corrrine) Gentry, and Daughter, Tamara Thompson, all of Sandusky, Ohio; Grandchildren, Mario Amicarelli, Megan, Jacob, and Owen Thompson, Gretchen Horner, Courtney Gentry, Carina Gentry-Sawyer, Georgetown, Texas, Joshua Gentry, Houston, Texas, and 8 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Laberta (Joseph) Mender of St. Petersburg Beach, Florida, and Angela Wilson of Lakeland, Florida, by his brother, Jack Amicarelli of Panama City, Florida, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edmund and Joseph Amicarelli, by an infant brother, and by his great granddaughter, Afton Gentry.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.in Walker Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Eckel will officiate.
