Richard J. Michel

Richard J. Michel, 89, of Sandusky died Friday, March 4, 2011 at his residence following a brief illness.

He was born May 13, 1921 in Sandusky and was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. Rich was the owner and operator of the former Colonial Barber Shop in Bowling Green, Ohio until his retirement. Since he moved by to the Sandusky area, he and his wife collected and sold antiques. He was a member of the AMVETS, the Exchange Club in Bowling Green and was an avid bowler.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Marion E. Hartwig, two sons: Richard (Diane) Michel of Bowling Green, OH., Joseph (Susan) Michel of Cincinnati, OH., one daughter: Gail Johnson of Cleveland, OH., four grandchildren: Keith Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Jesse Michel and Renae Gregg, six great grandchildren, three sisters: Rita Rudolph, Elaine Harrington and Patricia Wobser, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by one daughter: Mary Ann Michel, one grandson: Rocky Michel, his parents: Joseph & Mable (Biglin) Michel, two sisters: Mary Graves and Helen McGuffin, one brother: Eugene Michel At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation.

Private Family services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870, the North Coast Cancer Foundation, 417 Quarry Lakes Drive, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or to the Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
