Joan D. (Samaha) Blackburn

Joan D. (Samaha) Blackburn, 84, of Milan, Ohio, passed away, Tuesday, September 2, 2014 in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio.

She was born January 26,1930 in Akron, Ohio, to the late George C. and Mildred A. (Holl) Samaha, and lived in this area most of her life. J

oan was a 1948 graduate of Norwalk High School, attended the University of Miami at Oxford, Ohio, and was a 1952 graduate of Michigan State University. She was a member of the Norwalk First United Methodist Church and its Wesleyan Circle, the Jaycee Wives, was past president of the Milan Mothers Club, was a member of the Belleek Society, and was once named "Mrs. Norwalk". Joan was a former employee of the University of Michigan. She married her husband, Richard S. Blackburn November 12, 1952 and joined him in Japan with the U.S. Air Force.

Joan is survived by her husband, Richard S. Blackburn of Milan, Ohio, by her daughters, Elizabeth Galan of Norwalk, Ohio, and Margaret "Meg" (Bruce) Chrislip of Norwalk, Ohio, by two grandchildren, Alec and Emily, by her brothers, George William "Bill" (Madeline Fisher) Samaha of Wellsley, Mass., and Joel B. Samaha of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and by her sister, Ann Hettel of Vermilion, Ohio. S

he was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen Blackburn in 2012.

The Blackburn family would like to thank the staff of Stein Hospice Service for their care and support.

Friends may call on Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, where services will be held on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Chaplain Mel Sayler of Stein Hospice will officiate. Interment will be in Milan Cemetery.
