Lessie M. McVay

Lessie M. McVay, 68, of Perrysburg, OH and formerly of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly on September 18, 2014 in St. Luke's Hospital, Maumee, OH.

She was born on August 16, 1946 in Waynesboro, Miss. to Elmer and Airy B. Blakely.

Lessie grew up in Sandusky, attended Sandusky High School, and obtained her G.E.D. She later pursued higher education, receiving her journeyman's cord through General Motors, becoming the first black woman skilled trainer for Powertrain (GM) in Toledo. She retired in 2008 after 30 years of service.

Lessie had many talents and was extremely creative. She loved doing things for others, and was available to anyone who needed her - even those she did not know. She was very meticulous, and took great pride in her accomplishments. She often kept herself busy, and always wanted to challenge herself.

An only child, Lessie loved to make her parents happy. Once retired, she spent a great deal of her time in Sandusky, helping her parents. She particularly enjoyed seeing her mother smile, and looking sharp, when she attended church. She also enjoyed time with her husband, traveling, visiting casinos, and beautifying and updating their properties.

Lessie leaves behind her husband of 19 years, Earl McVay, of Perrysburg, Ohio; mother, Airy B. (Jordan) Blakely, of Sandusky; daughters, Angela Rollison, Daphne (Warren) Charley, and Stacey Rollison, all of Toledo; step-sons, Kenneth L. (Lynn) McVay, of Pioneer, Ohio, Eric J. McVay, of Indianapolis, Jeston G. (Sarah) McVay, of Atlanta, and Ali M. (Kelly) McVay, of Lambertville, Michigan; grandchildren, Stephen Garrett, Rachard Wilson, Darrick Colbert, De'Angelo Rollison, and Justine Adams; and a host of step-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Blakely; and step-son, Earl McVay.

Friends may call from 7-9 P.M. on Thursday, September 25 at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Graveside services will be held on Friday at 1 P.M. at Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
