Jo Dee (Hoenigman) Fantozz

Jo Dee (Hoenigman) Fantozz, 58, of Sandusky, passed away early Monday morning, Oct. 13, 2014, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.

Jo Dee was a very avid reader and an active member of the Sandusky Library Association, and a beloved Cleveland and Ohio State sports fan since childhood. She enjoyed spending her spare time with her grandchildren and taking trips to Las Vegas.

She was born March 13, 1956, in Sandusky, the daughter of June E. (Schuler) Hoenigman.

Jo Dee is survived by her children Dana (Phil) Skavnak and Nicholas (Anne) Fantozz; her grandchildren Benjamin, Luke, & Katie Rose Skavnak, and Ethan & Austin Fantozz; her sister Kim (Bob) Ryerson; her special companion, Jude Hammond; Dana & Nicholas's father, James Fantozz; along with several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother June E. Hoenigman and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jo Dee is a 1974 graduate of Margaretta High School. She received her Associate's degree from Terra Technical College. She then graduated with honors from Ashland University with both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Business Administration and was a LEADS (now Leadership Erie County) graduate.

She was Little Miss Bay View 1964, an honor she cherished; elected Erie County Treasurer, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 until her retirement in December 2013; 2011 President of the County Treasurers Association of Ohio (CTAO); along with being the association's secretary, treasurer, second, and first vice presidents and as a member of the association's legislative and hospitality committees; Erie County United Way Board Member; Erie Community Federal Credit Union Board Member; a member of the Democratic Women of Erie County; active within the Erie County Democratic Party.

Friends may call Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 3:00-7:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 17, 2014 at the First Christian Church, 3410 Hayes Avenue, Sandusky. Pastor Don Spurlock will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to The Sandusky Library, 114 Adams Street, Sandusky, OH 44870 or to Stein Hospice, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
