Glenn R. "Rocky" Rockwell Sr.

Glenn R. "Rocky" Rockwell Sr., 92, residing in Milan, passed away Monday evening, November 3, 2014 at Stein Hospice Care Center after a brief illness.

He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Glenn was born on December 20, 1921 in Avery, Milan, Ohio to the late Floyd and Laura (Strohmier) Rockwell.

Glenn graduated from Milan High School in 1940. He joined the Army Air Corp and graduated from the Army Air Force Advanced Flying School in Marianna, Florida on July 28, 1943 where he was a pilot instructor. He was transferred to ATC and started flying B17s and C47s. He retired in 1981 from the United States Air Force Reserve as a Major.

Glenn worked at New Departure Hyatt (the Sandusky General Motors Plant) for 31 years retiring in 1977. He loved spending time with his family, traveling (having visited all 50 states), reading and playing golf.
Glenn was a member of the Milan Rotary Club (he was a past president and received the Paul Harris Award), Milan Odd Fellows (he had been a Noble Grand), Norwalk Elks, Norwalk and Huron Eagles, Life Member of the Milan American Legion Post 527 (he was a past Commander), Shriners (member of the Zenobia Scottish Rite, Singara Grotto), 32nd Degree Mason of Erie Lodge No. 0239, served on the Milan Village Council, served as Mayor of Milan from 1961-1974, served on the Ohio Municipal Advisory Board, and was named the Milan Chamber of Commerce Person of the Year in 1968.

Glenn is survived by his three children, Glenn R. Rockwell Jr., Connie (Richard) Smith, and Steven (Kim) Rockwell; seven grandchildren, Shannon (Jim) Howatineck, Annette (Brad) Simon, Adrianne (Eric) Quillen, Stephanee (Quinn) Zeerbe, Jennifer (Jaime) Smith, Benjamin Smith and Patrick Rockwell; seven great-grandchildren, Thomas, Blake, Kalli, Kenadi, Kira, Austin and Nicholas; two step-grandchildren, Jordan and Carson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Carole Russell; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Glenn is preceded in death by his first wife, Constance (Nelson) Rockwell; his second wife, Delores (Clark) Rockwell; his third wife, Joyce Peck-Rockwell; brother and sister-in-law, John (Hazel) Rockwell; and sister and brother-in-law, Lela (William) Doerner.

Friends may call on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory Milan Chapel, 1 South Main Street, Milan, Ohio. Friends may also call Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the funeral home from 9:00 am until the time of funeral services at 10:00 am with Rev. Dale W. Thomas presiding. Burial with military honors will follow in Milan Cemetery, Milan, Ohio.
