William Aigler

William Aigler, 98, of Bellevue passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at The Willows at Bellevue.

He was born July 20, 1916 in Bellevue the son of Allan G. and Magdaline (Knapp) Aigler.

A 1934 graduate of Bellevue High School, William attended the University of Michigan where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Fraternity and also was a letterman in Track and Field. He would then attend the University of Michigan Law School and earned his Juris Doctor in 1943. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1943 and practiced law in Cleveland and Bellevue.

He served two terms as the Bellevue City Solicitor, and three terms as President of the Bellevue City Council. He was a member of the Bellevue Hospital Board of Trustees for 17 years, and five years as chairman. He also served on the Board of Trustees of Heidelberg College for twenty four years, where he served as Chairman of the Board from 1989-1995. In 1990, Bill was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Bellevue Area Chamber of Commerce. Bill was member of the Huron County Bar Association, Sandusky County Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He served as member of the Stratford Canada Festival in Stratford, Canada. For 20 Years he served on the Board of Directors for the Union Bank and Savings Co. and also as chairman of the board for several terms. He was also a member of the University Club of Cleveland.

He was a very active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Bellevue where he served on Church Council for 8 years and 3 years as chairman. He also served on the National Home Mission Board of the United Church of Christ for 10 years, also spending six years on its' Executive Committee and 2 years as chairman.

Bill is survived by his wife, Marjorie B. (Horn) Aigler of Bellevue; two sons, Mark (Irene) Aigler and Thomas (Linda) Aigler; step-children: Dr. Jay (Carol) Ball, Dr. Valerie Ball, Dr. Victoria Ball, Dr. Michael (Mary Ellen) Ball, and Margo (John) MacQuarrie; Grandchildren, Sarah (Jeremy) Doster, Angela Aigler, Jeremiah (Carrie) Aigler, Rachael (Kyle) Broughton; great grandchildren, Cameron Doster, Caleigh and Drew Aigler; Step-grandchildren, Lauren (Bruce) McDonald, Adam (Megan) Ball, Sarah (John) Scheidler, Emily (Russel) Bible, Kevin and Brian Ball, Keenan, Cade, Cullen and Cavanaugh MacQuarrie; step great grandson Ryan Scheidler; One brother, Thomas K. Aigler; and sister in law, Marjorie Aigler (Bud) Martin.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy B. Aigler and brother, John A. Aigler.

Friends will be received on Sunday, November 23, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. A memorial service will begin on Monday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 428 Kilbourne St., Bellevue, Ohio 44811. Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery.
