Kenneth R. Beck

Kenneth R. Beck, 89, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014 in Gaymont Nursing Center.

He was born March 29, 1925 in Bellevue, Ohio to the late Ray K. and Florence M. (Simmons) Beck and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1945 graduate of Norwalk High School, and was a member of the Norwalk High School Hall of Fame. Ken was also a member of the Norwalk First Presbyterian Church, the Norwalk Bronson Conservation Club, Eagles Aerie #711, was a social member of Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was the past president of the Firelands Coin Club.

He was a former employee of the Mary Lee Candy Company of Norwalk, Ohio, Rudy's Hardware of Norwalk, Ohio, and retired with 30 years of service from White Roofing and Lumber Company of Norwalk, Ohio. Ken enjoyed coin collecting, golf, bingo, and wintering in Lakeland, Florida. He played softball as a young man and tried out for the Cleveland Indians Baseball team where he hit a homerun off of legendary pictcher Bob Feller.

He is survived by his wife, 23 years, Josephine M. Beck of Norwalk, Ohio, by his daughters, Catherine (Bob) Marksbury of Norwalk, Ohio, and Susan Beck (James Benson) of Lewes, Delaware, and by his step son, Larry (Janice) Kanserski of Seville, Ohio, and by his step daughter, Lorrine (Leo) Ladyzhensky, of Lakewood, Ohio.

Ken is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Philip (Kate) Smith of Avon Lake, Ohio, and Adam (Lisa) Smith of Highland, New York, 4 great grandchildren, Lily, Sarah, Allison, and Giavanna Smith, 5 step grandchildren, Leroy (Cynthia) Ladyzhensky of Elyria, OH, Lorinda (Jon) Dublo of Parma, OH, Larry Kanserski, Jr. of Akron, OH, Lance (Peg) Kanserski of LaGrange, OH, and Lenny Kanserski (David) of Ft.Myers, FL ,and 3 step great grandchildren, Brandon , Harrison, and Cameron Dublo.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray K. Beck, Jr., Clifford E. Beck, and Thomas M. Beck, by his sisters, Marion E. Duvall, and Evelyn K. Burley, and by his grandson, Eric K. Smith.

Friends may call on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 Noon in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Claire Brewer will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio.
