Marian C. (Crecelius) Gillen

Marian C. (Crecelius) Gillen, 101, residing in Akron and formerly of Milan, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at Copley Health Center.

Marian was born on January 3, 1914 in Milan, OH to the late Herman and Mary (Ohlemacher) Crecelius.

Marian was a 1932 graduate from Sandusky High School and received her master's degree from Oberlin College. She taught English at Coventry High School in Akron for many years and was a substitute teacher in the Milan area. Marian was a member of St. John's UCC and the Firestone Country Club. She also volunteered at Akron General Hospital. In her spare time, she enjoyed art, especially decoupage, and taking care of her husband and family. Marian will always be remembered as an elegant and classy woman.

Marian is survived by her nieces, Alvina (John) Schaeffer, Joann (Richard) Jones, Shirley (Rolland) Angersbach and Bonnie Braddock; nephews, James (Marjorie) and Wayne Crecelius and numerous great nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Marian is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Gillen; sister, Arvata Crecelius; brothers, Albert and Paul Crecelius; nieces, Ruth Kyle and Sharon Crecelius and nephew, Herman Crecelius.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 2:00 pm at St. John's UCC, 2712 Mason Rd., Milan with Rev. Wendy Schindler-Chasney presiding. Burial will follow in St. John's UCC Cemetery, Milan, OH. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory Milan Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
