Elwin E. April, 89, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2015, in Norwalk Memorial Home.

He was born April 4, 1925 in Grafton Twp., Lorain County, Ohio, to the late Frank, J. and Louise (Neff) April, and came to this area from Cleveland, Ohio in 1947.

Elwin was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in WWII. He retired from Columbia Gas in 1979. Elwin was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister, taught C.C.D. classes, and help organize the 55 plus club, and the St Vincent DePaul Society. He was also a member of the Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars DADS, Eagles Aerie #711, and Ken Bur Bell Post #41 American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and reading. Elwin was the 2013 Huron County Fair King, and he and his late wife, Mary were the Norwalk Memorial Home King and Queen in 2013.

He is survived by his children, Mary S. Ringlein, of Norwalk, Ohio, Robert A. (Janet) April of Norwalk, Ohio, Karen L. (Terry) Trumpower, of Norwalk, Ohio, Patricia M. (Jerry) Hykes of Highland Springs, Virginia, Terry A. Board, of Norwalk, Ohio, and John M. April of Hanibal, New York, by 19 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary J. (Ross) April in 2014, by an infant son, Joseph April, by his sister Marie Ricter, and by his brother, Earl April.

Friends may call on Sunday, February 1, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main St. Norwalk, Ohio, Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 38 W. League St., Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Anthony Recker will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
