Helen Armbrust

Helen Armbrust, 84, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away February 24, 2015 in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, Ohio.

She was born January 28, 1931 in Tiffin, Ohio to the late Florence and Corwin Resh.

Helen graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1948, and Heidelberg College in 1952. She belonged to the Hesperian Society, and is a Heidelberg Fellow. After graduating from Heidelberg, she was Health and Physical Education Director at the Detroit Central YWCA. In 1954, she married Richard Armbrust after he returned from the Korean War and finished his education at Heidelberg College. Their first home was in Albion, Michigan, where their daughter Carol was born. Their son, David was born in Port Clinton, Ohio. Helen also lived in Bowling Green, Elmore, Garrettsville, and the last 30 years in the Norwalk area. She was a volunteer for Red Cross summer swim programs; a water ballet instructor; March of Dimes volunteer; Bible School teacher; Girl Scout leader, Salvation Army soup kitchen and children's summer lunches volunteer; Christmas Castle worker; and volunteer at Mad River NKP railroad museum. Helen spent many years doing genealogy for both sides of her and Richard's families. Helen belonged to the Albion, Michigan Business and Professional Women; past president of the Port Clinton Mother's Forum C.C.L.; past president of the Elmore Study Club; 55 year member of Tiffin Eastern Stars, and member of OPERS. She was a substitute teacher in Erie and Huron County schools and retired in 1993 from Christie Lane School after 10 years working with special needs children. Helen was a fan of all sports, and especially enjoyed walking, swimming, fishing, and boating for exercise. She enjoyed doing yard work, and taking care of her flowers.

Richard survives, along with her daughter, Carol (Tom Aldrich), and son, David (Lynn) Armbrust, by her grandchildren, Lauren and Daniel Armbrust of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Charlotte and Alec Aldrich of Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

Burial will be in Attica-Venice Cemetery, Attica, Ohio at a later date. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services, 505 West Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio 44870, or to the donor's favorite charity.
