Carla Marie Matthews

Carla Marie Matthews, 46, Sandusky, was called home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, April 6, 2011, in University Hospital, Cleveland, surrounded by her immediate family.

She was born on September 5, 1964 in Sandusky, the daughter of James and Dorothy (Thomas) Hayes, and the eldest of five siblings. Carla married Robert Matthews on December 27, 1990. She grew up in Sandusky and attended Sandusky public schools. She attended Ohio Business College, and BGSU (Firelands Campus). Carla was employed by NASA Plum Brook Operations as an Accounting Supervisor for 15 years. Carla was baptized in Jesus' name and received the gift of the Holy Ghost in August 1981. She was a faithful and long-time member of Emmanuel Temple Church, where she served in several auxiliaries including the Women's Choir, Women's Ministry "Gather and Grow," Radio Broadcast, Nurses Guild, Announcers Guild, and member of the baptism committee. During her travail, Carla would come to church when she could and just give God the "praise." She blessed many with a smile, kind words, and warm hugs. Sister Carla nourished her family with unconditional love. She will be greatly missed by her family, church family and friends.

She is survived by her husband; parents; two daughters, Nikia (Tahjai) Bassum, Chicago, IL; and Tamara Prophet,Columbus, OH; son, Bronta� (Tiffany) Prophet, Crestview, FL; stepdaughters, Brande (Shelby) Guillory, and Krystle Buckley, both of Charleston, SC; stepson, Bobby Koltz, Sandusky, OH; grandchildren, Bre�ona Prophet, Ta'Niya Prophet, Gabrielle Prophet, Keyshawn Matthews, Kayshrion Guillory, Trushawn Buckley, Brooklyn Buckley, and Brendon Koltz; brothers, Gary (Annie) Hayes, Norwalk, OH; James (Lana) Hayes, Sandusky, OH; Jason and Shannon Hayes, both of Sandusky, OH.

She was preceded in death her paternal and maternal grandparents, and two uncles. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 10, 2011, from 6:00 to 8 P.M. p.m. at Emmanuel Temple Church, 128 E. Adams St. Sandusky.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Temple Church. Bishop Rufus G.W. Sanders will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery.

We would like to extend a special thanks to the following individuals and organizations that have gone above and beyond in our time of need. They are: Sis. Joanne Lipford-Sanders, Sis. Beverly Sanders, Sis. Regina Poole, and Sis. Doreen Parker for being there for our mother when her children could not. Also the team of doctors and staff at the University Hospitals of Cleveland, and American Cancer Society - Hope Lodge for their hospitality and constant encouragement.
