Charles J. Westerhold

Charles J. Westerhold, of Huron, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 1, 2015 at the Ohio Veteran's Home, shortly after celebrating his 95th birthday with his family.

Charles was born on March 1, 1920 in Sandusky, OH to the late Andrew and Sophia (Winterhalter) Westerhold.

Charles was a 1938 graduate of St. Mary's High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during World War II. He was the manager of the family business, Smith Hardware and the service manager at Airco Industrial Gases in Warren, OH before retiring in 1982. Charles was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Sandusky Knights of Columbus, past president of the Sandusky Lions Club and the Sandusky Chamber of Commerce in the 1950's. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, traveling to the national parks and playing bingo.

Charles is survived by his daughters, Joyce Westerhold and Ann (David) Ballard; sons; Lee (Pam), Drew (Brenda), Scott (Jill), Matt and Jay Westerhold; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, CoAnn Westerhold; sister, Virginia Ebert; brother, James Westerhold and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Norma (Giltnane) Westerhold in 1994; sons, Dale R. and Grant P. Westerhold; sister, Murita Ott and brother, Rolland Westerhold.

A private graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky with Father Joe Steinbauer officiating. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
