Alfreda M. Cline

Alfreda M. Cline of Castalia, OH, passed on to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday, July 6th, 2015, in Providence Care Center.

Born in Dunkirk NY, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Koszyczarek) Slominski.

Alfreda was a 53 year member of Holy Angles Catholic Church and a 50 year member of the Daughters of Isabella Trinity Circle #385. She grew up in Dunkirk, NY and attended Polish school and graduated from high school, which few girls did at that time. She spoke and wrote in fluent Polish. She learned to drive from her brother and then taught her father to drive - because her brothers did not have the patience. She later worked in the "Van Roalte Co." factory in Dunkirk as a seamstress along with her mother. At one point her job was sewing thumbs on gloves. After moving to Castalia, Ohio in 1962 she worked at JC Penny's as a seamstress and custom drapery maker for many years. Later she worked for Scott Paper, GM at New Departure and Mansfield.

Freda was an avid crafter, doing everything from knitting, crocheting, and needle point to decorating cakes, to ceramics. Most of all she loved Jesus, her Catholic faith and her family.

Freda is survived by her son, Lee R. Cline, daughter-in-law Jan (Javner) Cline of West Salem, WI and two grandchildren; Matthew (Amy Beth) of Ames, IA and Amy Lynn of La Crosse, WI.

Alfreda is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Maryann Cline, and her husband Robert L. Cline, whom she married in 1948. In addition she was preceded in death by her five brothers Lucas, Walter, Alojzy, Marian (Mike), and Hipolite (Edward) Slominski.

The family would like to thank her many friends and caregivers, especially "Freda's Angels", who lovingly helped care for Freda; as well as the Margaretta Twp. Emergency Squad, Stein Palliative Care, Providence Care Center and Stein Hospice Care for the wonderful help and compassionate care they provide. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to one of the wonderful organizations above.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July, 10th at Holy Angles Catholic Church, 1605 W. Jefferson St., Sandusky, OH. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Joe Steinbauer will officiate. Graveside services will be held Monday in St. Hyacinth Cemetery in Dunkirk, NY.

Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky is handling the arrangements.
