J. Rachel Palmer, 84, of Norwalk, Ohio, went to her heavenly home, Saturday, August 15, 2015, in the Bellevue Care Center, Bellevue, Ohio.

She was born February 15, 1931 in Galion, Ohio, to the late Wilbur and M. Isabelle (Biebighauser) Thieret, and moved to Collins, Ohio, in 1932 from Galion.

Rachel was a member of the Norwalk Alliance Church, Norwalk, Ohio, where she was a member of the prayer chain, and the Home Church group. She was a former secretary for Attorney Pruner of Norwalk, Ohio, for the Norwalk Reflector, was a former employee of Holman Jewelry Store, Norwalk, Ohio, and the Maple City Rubber Company. Rachel enjoyed needlepoint, crafting, crewel, Saduko, crossword puzzles, and reading her Bible and daily devotions. She especially enjoyed making Christmas tree skirts, and Christmas stockings for her family. Rachel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and loved having her family, and grand dogs, with her.

She is survived by her children, Martha (Kenneth) Hillman of Norwalk, Ohio, Catherine (Robert M.) Ackerman, Monroeville, Ohio, Mary (Thomas) Bennett, Clyde, Ohio, Rebecca McGue, Norwalk, Ohio, and Raymond E. "Ned" Palmer II of Cleveland, Ohio, 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, by her sister, Halcyon Strickland, of Norwalk, Ohio, and by her daughter in law, Elaine Palmer of Norwalk, Ohio.

Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Palmer in 1993, by her grandson, Nicholas Ackerman, by her brothers, Eugene, Herbert, and Roland Thieret, by her sisters, Nancy Sellers, and Judy Ditty, and by her son in law, Larry McGue.

Friends may call on Saturday, August 22, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:30 p.m. in the Norwalk Alliance Church, 2755 U.S. 250 South, Norwalk, Ohio. Pastor Dwight Stickland, and Pastor Michael Bachman will officiate. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Norwalk Alliance Church Mission Fund, or to the Norwalk Salvation Army Food Bank, 55 Whittlesey Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio 4857.
