Donald Paul Schlett Sr.

Donald Paul Schlett Sr., 92, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday afternoon, August 20, 2015 at Stein Hospice Care Center, following a brief illness.

He was born on October 29, 1922 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Peter and Mary (Schwerer) Schlett.

Donald was a 1941 graduate of Sandusky High School and was a Veteran of the United States Army who proudly served his country from 1943 to 1945. He was employed as a Core Maker at Farrell-Cheek Steel Company for 37 years before retiring in 1982. Donald was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, AMVETS and the Sandusky VFW. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, fishing, wood working, gardening and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Angeline DeBlase Schlett, whom he married on June 1, 1949; his daughters, Christine (Eric) Mashita of California and Gail Shatzer; three sons, Donald Jr. (Stephen Lozano), Gerald (Cindy) of Milan and Jeffrey (Amy) Schlett of Bellevue; 10 grandchildren, Brett (Tammy), Alison (Jade), Lesley, Andrea, Adam (Abbey), Marcus (Laura), Chadwick, Samantha, Megan, and Joshua; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Including his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew Schlett; sister, Florence Baker; two brothers, Willis and Richard Schlett.

Friends may call on Monday, August 24, 2015, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. A prayer service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave. with Father Joe Steinbauer presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky, OH, where Military Honors will be conducted by the Marines Forever.
