Wilbur C. Vickery, Sr.

Wilbur C. Vickery, Sr., 84, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Friday morning, August 21, 2015, in the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, Ohio.

He was born July 27, 1931 in Patton, Maine, to the late Vernard and Myrtle (Gray) Vickery, and came to this area in 1965 from Bristol, Connecticut.

Wilbur was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Tokyo during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Norwalk, Ohio. Wilbur retired from General Motors New Departure (EDS), Sandusky, Ohio, in 1991. Wilbur was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Vermilion, Ohio, and Ken Bur Bell Post #41 American Legion, Norwalk, Ohio. He was the former Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #234, was a former District Chairman, Commissioner, and summer camp volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America.

Wilbur enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, traveling, and day trips with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lucille A. (Dutil) Vickery of Norwalk, Ohio, by his children, Wilbur C. Vickery, Jr. of Chillicothe, Ohio, Vernard Vickery, Sr. of Norwalk, Ohio, and Danielle M. (Michael) Phillips of Norwalk, Ohio. Wilbur is also survived by his grandchildren, Brandon, Vernard, Jr., Justin, Lindsey, and Kelsey, by his great grandchildren, Masen, Arian, Lucy, Delilah, Silas, and Lilith, by his sister, Frances (Carl) DeMars of Bristol, Ct., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lynn Vickery, and by his sisters, Leandra Lassy, and Beverly Dube.

Friends may call on Monday, August 24, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church, 38 West League Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Anthony Recker will officiate. Inurnment will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
