Joanne Schneider, 85, of Sandusky died Saturday, October 17, 2015 in the Providence Care Center, Sandusky following a brief illness.

She was born in Dayton, Ohio on November 14, 1929. Joanne married Robert Henry Schneider on August 17, 1951 and they lived in Attica for 30 years, Jefferson County for 14 years and returned to Sandusky in 1992 upon their retirement.

Joanne is a 1947 graduate of Sandusky High School. She attended Bowling Green State University for one year. She received her Registered Nursing diploma from St. Luke's School of Nursing, Cleveland, Ohio in 1951.
Joanne spent 41 years in the nursing field. She started her nursing career at Willard Hospital in 1951. She took time off to raise her family and then worked as an industrial nurse at Pioneer Rubber Company in Willard. When she moved to Jefferson County, she worked as a home health and hospice nurse and upon returning to Sandusky she continued her hospice nursing and volunteer work with Stein Hospice.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Sandusky, the Vacationland Band and North Coast Concert Band where she played the baritone.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert Henry Schneider; four children, Robert (Susie) Schneider, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, Sally (Chuck) Schneider Lowrey, Lafayette, Indiana, Anne Schneider Belsito, Overland Park, Kansas and Tom (Betty) Schneider, Centreville, Virginia; ten grandchildren, James Schneider, Michael Schneider, Patrick (Lauren) Lowrey, Michael (Lindsey) Lowrey, Jennifer (Jake) Warner, Barbara Belsito, Katherine Belsito, Elizabeth Schneider, Thomas Schneider, Jr. and Sarah Schneider; six great grandchildren, Jeremy Lowrey, Brady Lowrey, Jack Warner, Julia Warner, Luke Warner and Brooks Lowrey; one sister, Mary Jane (Jim) Ritter, Sandusky; sister-in-law, Jean Meckstroth of Elroy Wisconsin, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Emil J. Meckstroth and Mary (West) Meckstroth; and one brother, James Meckstroth.

Friends may call Tuesday, October 20, 2015, from 2-4:00 PM and 6-8:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky and on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 214 E. Jefferson Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870. The Rev. Douglas Winner will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
