Paul D. Burns

Paul D. Burns, 67, residing in the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, died Monday, November 30, 2015, in Stein Hospice Care Center.

He was born in Fremont, OH on February 27, 1948, to the late Boyd and Willina (Wiser) Burns.

Paul was a1966 graduate of Elmwood High School, and attended Terra Community College, Fremont. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving two terms in the Air Defense Artillery and military police, reaching the rank of Staff Sargent. Paul received many decorations, medals, badges, citations, and ribbons. He was employed by Brush Beryllium Co., an investigator for Wood Co. Department of Human Services, and a Semi-truck driver for Garner Transportation.

Paul was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Sandusky, Ballville Township Fire Department, Fremont Eagles, and American Legion Post #888. He was an avid sports fan, following the Ohio State Buckeyes, Baltimore Orioles, and especially the St. Louis Cardinals. Paul enjoyed NASCAR, listening to music, with a preference of Classical and Southern Gospel, and reading the Bible.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Jo (Larry) Jay, Fremont, OH; brother-in-law, Kenneth E. Tyson, Sr., Portage, OH; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces; and a cousin, Carlene Sader.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Tyson; and a brother in infancy, Robert Eugene Burns.

Friends may call on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, from 10:30 A.M. until time of memorial services at 11:30 A.M. in the Ohio Veterans Home, Giffin Chapel, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Paul Birmingham and Rev. David Hixson will officiate. Burial will be in the Ohio Veterans Home Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Paul's name to the Ohio Veterans Home Resident Benefit Fund, Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870, or to Calvary Baptist Church, 1810 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky.
