Wilfred J. "Wil" Brownlow, Jr., M.D.

Wilfred J. "Wil" Brownlow, Jr., M.D., 84, of Huron passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015 in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

Wilfred was born February 26, 1931 in Zion, Illinois, the son of Wilfred and Ruth (Maltby) Brownlow, Sr.

Wil served as Captain in the U.S. Navy for 26 years in the capacity of physician. He was aboard the ship USS Oriskany for a period of time and was a veteran of the Vietnam war. Wil retired from the Navy in 1979 and found his new position in Cleveland, Ohio as the Medical Director for the Standard Oil Company, which eventually became The British Petroleum Co. (BP).

After a three month hiatus from retirement he joined the Medical Staff of the former Providence Hospital in 1995. He was a Board Certified Occupation and Environmental Specialist and a consultant for area businesses and industry. Wil was also the Medical Director at Delphi Chassis Systems, Sandusky, through the Providence Preferred Business Health Network. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and got his medical degree from the University of Maryland in Baltimore. He completed a rotating internship at the National Navy Medical Center, Bethesda, MD, a residency at the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health and a mini residency at the University of Cincinnati.

He is survived by his loving wife, the former Barbara Lee Szczepanek; three sons, James "Jim" (Eileen), Edward "Ed" both of Virginia Beach, VA and William "Bill" (Christina) of Lakeland, FL; his former wife, Kathryn of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister, Gail (Ken) Meyers of Lindenhurst, IL; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Brendan, Erin, Matthew, Monica, Kim (Bobby) Hutchison and Mike Crane; great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Andrew "Andy"; one sister, Josephine Peterson; and one daughter in law, Catherine.

Friends may call Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 2:00 PM until time of Memorial Service at 5:00 PM in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Chaplain Mel Sayler will officiate.
