Mahlon S. Coughlin, 96, Berlin Heights, died Thursday, May 26, 2011, in Norwalk Memorial Home.

 

He was born on October 10, 1915 in Greenville, Maine, and grew up in Canada, where he loved to play hockey and baseball. 

 

Mahlon came back to the United States in his early twenties and worked for both the former Norwalk Paper Box, and Harrison’s in Birmingham, OH.

 

He was a member of Norwalk Alliance Church where he was the Elder Emeritus and the oldest member of the church.  Mahlon loved gardening.

 

He is survived by his daughters, Willa Slocum, Farmville, NC, Beverly “Sharon” (Clark) Hahn, Berlin Heights, Sylvia Birdsall, Norwalk, and Melba (Theodore) Hill, Suffolk, VA; twenty grandchildren; forty- nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Ina Acomb, Los Alamos, NM, Angie Richardson, White Horse, Canada, and Lyla Newman, British Columbia, Canada; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Melba (Worman) Coughlin; parents, Mahlon and Ina (Sinclair) Coughlin; sisters, Vesta Cookson, Enid Tweedy, and Eva McLellen; brother, Robert Coughlin; and a great-grandchild, Todd Jordan.

 

There will be no visitation.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 28, 2011, at 11 A.M. in the Norwalk Alliance Church, 2755 US Rte. 250, Norwalk.  Rev. Wayne Mushett will officiate.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Norwalk Alliance Church.  Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is assisting the family with arrangements.  Condolences may be shared at www.toftfh.com.
