John E. Heinzerling

John E. Heinzerling, 77, of Castalia, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 30, 2015 in the Lutheran Memorial Home, Sandusky following a brief illness.

He was born November 8, 1938 in Sandusky to Raymond and Esther (Krueger) Heinzerling and was a 1956 graduate of Margaretta High School.

In 1966 he served in the U.S. Army Reserves. John retired in 2001 from Stowe Woodward and prior to this he had worked at the American Crayon Company. He was a life member of Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia and a member of the American Legion Post 83 and AMVETS Post 17 both of Sandusky. He was an avid race fan, enjoyed yard work, fishing, bird watching and bowling in couples and senior leagues. He especially enjoyed watching his grandson grow up and following him in his many activities.

He is survived by one son, Brian (Oshel) Heinzerling; one daughter, Jan (Keith) Good; one grandson, Cole Good; his companion of eight years, Carole Fagginatto; one sister, Linda (Clare) Kosab; one brother, Don (Gene) Heinzerling; two sister in laws, Wanda (Jim) Keller and Karen (Don) Ebner; one brother in law, Ken (Sandy) Adams and many nieces, nephews and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Phyllis (Adams) Heinzerling, whom he has been reunited with; his parents, his in laws, Harold and Betty Adams; his daughter in law, Joyce Heinzerling; brother in law, Harry Adams; niece and nephew, Randy and Kenna (Purvis) Keller.

Friends may call Sunday, January 3, 2016 from 3-6:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky and on Monday, January 4, 2016 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at 11:00 AM in the Grace Lutheran Church, 203 S. Washington Street, Castalia. Pastor Katie Suggitt will officiate. Burial will be in the Castalia Cemetery.
