Shirley M. (Penix) Caudill, 92, residing in Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, January 6, 2016 at her home.
Shirley was born on February 28, 1923 in Salyersville, KY to the late Tilden and Doshia (Salyer) Penix.
She retired from the former American Crayon Company in Sandusky and was an Avon sales representative for several years. Shirley was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where she was an active member who taught Sunday school for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, canning, cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Joyce "Carol" Bonderer and Dinah (Lynn) Adelman both of Sandusky; son, Doug (Sharon) Cole of Clyde; 5 grandchildren, Tina Fleming, Terri Meyer, Tracy Haerr, Jerri Bonderer and Doug Bonderer; 22 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Leatha Elkins of MI and Alka Taylor of IL; brothers, Marvin Penix of IN and Kenneth Penix of KY and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Richmond W. Caudill in 1987; granddaughter, Wanda Debski; sisters, Beulah Lovely, Ethel Mae Williams and Edizine Penix; brothers, Earl, Franklin and Ernest Penix and step-mother, Edna Penix.
Friends may call on Sunday, January 10, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 11:00 am with Pastor James Gregory presiding. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
