Wilbur L. Wittington, 84, passed away Saturday, May 29th at the Ohio Veterans Home after a lengthy illness. Wilbur was born to Orrville and the Rev. Marie Whittington Poling on May 27, 1927 in Baltimore, Ohio. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. Wilbur retired from Ford Motor in Sandusky in 1989 after 23 years of service. Prior to that, he was a traveling salesman for several hardware supply businesses.

Before his health deteriorated, he enjoyed fishing, boating, and camping with his family. He especially loved his 1964 Y2 Ford Mustang convertible which he had refurbished. Will was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church Sandusky; American Legion Post 83; Science Lodge F & AM; Zenobia Shrine; and the Singara Grotto.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years; Grace Ann Austin Whittington and six children: Cheryl, (Eric) Zirkelbach, Evansville IN, Tom Whittington Lancaster OH, Elaine Howey Sandusky, John (Mary Beth) Whittington Columbus OH, Andrew (Ceri) Whittington, Georgetown KY, and Anna

Marie (Rich) Bell, Marblehead OH, three stepchildren, Deborah (Ron) Friedman, Commerce MI, Michelle (Michael) Hedberg, Orrville OH, and Randy Smith, Fremont, sixteen grandchildren: Matt Zirkelbach, Crissy Weightman, Sam Waite, Mike Franklin, Lauren Pfleiderer, Danny & Aaron Whittington, Emily & David Whittington, Austin & Kayla Bell, Tony & Cory Hedberg, Ross Friedman, Adam & Beth Smith; ten great-grandchildren; and a special nephew Arthur Whittington.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents and one brother who died during WWII in the New Guinea Islands.

Friends may call Wednesday from noon until time of service 2 p.m. at Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave, Sandusky. Rev. Robert Machovec will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery, Castalia. Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's unit at the Ohio Veterans Home or the donor’s favorite charity or to Stein Hospice Services, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky 44870.
