Lillie Mae Simpson

Lillie Mae Simpson, 98, of Sandusky, entered her eternal rest on Monday, February 1, 2016, at her residence.

She was born on September 12, 1917 in Midway, Ala. to Mattie Hill. She moved to Akron, Ohio in 1940. She later moved to Sandusky, OH in 1950 where she met and married Jack Simpson.

She was a dedicated member of New Jerusalem Church and served on the Usher Board for many years. Lillie enjoyed her church and her church family.

Lillie Mae was one of the founding members of the Eastern Star where she served faithfully until the local chapter closed.

She liked to cook for her family and friends. Her specialties were mac & cheese and a butter pound cake.

Lillie Mae appeared on the cover of Serving Our Seniors October/December 2012 issue titled "Recipes for Successful Aging" at the age of 94.

Lillie Mae was employed by Plum Brook Country Club and Sandusky City Schools retiring in 1980. But she wasn't done working yet-she became a school crossing guard retiring again at 70 years old.

She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Robert Lee Williams, Sandusky, OH; grandchildren: Robin Carlisle of Memphis, TN; Tira Smith and Nakia Williams of Sandusky, OH; Clifton Glenn of Lebanon, OH; and Artisha Williams of Akron, OH. great-grandchildren: Tohja Dickerson, Kaymani Banks, Tieriney & Tyler Smith, Remi Hasal, Jah'Najha, Joh'Neese and Joh'Nesha Bowers; and Ja Shauna Rankin; great-great-great-grandchild: Zylen Steele. Special grandchildren: Tre'lanna & Anthony McCarty; special great-grandchildren: Tre'Maine, Tre'Tean and Tre'Jeen McCarty; Special daughter: Dorothy ( Lewis) Page; Niece: Marie (Charlie) Myrick; Nephew: Willie (Pat) Hicks; special cousins: Freda Rogers, Connie and Shawnda; special friend: Maggie, and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister: Nettie Taylor; brothers: C.W. Allen, William C. Allen, and Willie Hicks.

Friends may call on Monday, February 8, 2016, from 10 A.M. until time of funeral services at 12 P.M. Noon in New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Eddie Henry Way, Sandusky. Rev. Curtis L. Johnson, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky is handling the arrangements.
