Jan Leake

Jan Leake, 87, of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 14, 2016 in Firelands Regional Medical Center.
She was born on June 7, 1928 in Sandusky to the late Harrison and Elsie (Stewart) Zellner.

She was raised in Castalia, graduating from Margaretta High School in 1946. Jan earned her bachelor's degree from Heidelberg University (formerly Heidelberg College) in 1950. She taught for Huron City Schools, retiring early to be home for her family.

She was a member of St. Stephen's UCC, Sandusky. Her family remembers her love of music, especially singing. She was extremely active in both the church choir and the Heidelberg University Alumni Choir. Most important to Jan, however, was her family. She was the caregiver, dedicating her whole being to the well being of those she loved.

Jan is survived by her daughter, Diane (husband, Carroll Carter) Elizabeth Leake, of S. Carolina; son, Dr. Jonathan (wife, Lan) Frank Leake, of Sandusky; and grandchildren, Megan Le Leake and Michael Le Leake.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Frank Leake; a son in infancy, Scott Stewart Leake; and a brother, David Zellner.

At Jan's request, there will be no visitation and cremation will take place. Private family services will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jan's name to St. Stephen's UCC, 905 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870 or to Back to the Wild, PO Box 423, Castalia, OH 44824.
