Clifton E. Burns

Clifton E. Burns, 87, of Cleveland and formerly of Sandusky, made his transition on Thursday, February 18, 2016 in Hospice of the Western Reserve, Cleveland, after a brief illness.

He was born on May 18, 1928 in Sandusky, where he resided until moving to Cleveland in the 1950s.

Cliff served in the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. He played in the Sandusky City Baseball League, for the team known as the Rockets, where he was a pitcher referred to as, The Whip. He was employed by the Ford Motor Company, Brook Park-Cleveland for 32 years, retiring in 1993.

Cliff is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Brown, of Cleveland; two grandchildren; one great-grand child; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jocelyn Burns; his parents, Arthur and Pauline Burns; son, Edward Burns; and brothers, Arthur and John Henry Burns.

Friends may call on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 12:30 PM until time of funeral services at 1:30 PM in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Minister Howard Carr will present the eulogy. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, with the American Legion Post 83 Color Guard providing the military tribute.
