Unas Lee Magee

Unas Lee Magee, 90, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Saturday, April 9, 2016 in Portland Place.

He was born on December 11, 1925 in Beaumont, Miss. to Della (Richardson) and Link Magee.

He left school early to serve in the military. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. After serving in the military he moved around before finally settling in Sandusky. He worked at Diamond Fertilizer Plant, Waldock Packing Company, and eventually Thaker Aluminum, from which he retired in 1992. Unas was a member of Northwest Ohio Area Industries UAW Union. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians. He also enjoyed his time managing the J. H. Routh Packing men's softball team, which he did for many years, winning several championships.

Unas was a faithful and devoted member of The Mount Zion Church of God in Christ. He held numerous positions in the church upon becoming a member. At the time of his death he was a member of the Deacon Board. Unas was also well known for his barbecue, which he often prepared for church dinners.

Surviving and forever cherishing his memory is his wife of 41 years, Hattie; son, Thomas (Jean) Magee, of Boston, MA; and daughters, Patricia Ann Pearson, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Cheryl Lynn (Lonnie Register, affectionately known as his barber) Magee, and LaToya Reed, both of Sandusky; grandsons, who he helped nurture, Troy Pearson, of Las Vegas, Nevada and Joseph C. Magee, of Sandusky; sister-in-law; Etrisha Conway, of Sandusky; special niece, Tammy (Stewart) Williams; six additional grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Florastine Jacobson; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call from 10 A.M. on Friday, April 15, 2016 until time of funeral services at 12 Noon at Mount Zion Church of God in Christ, 1814 Second St., Sandusky. Superintendent Ross Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Perkins Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Unas' name to the church.
