Lela Clare (Corwin) Fultz

Lela Clare (Corwin) Fultz, 84, of Sandusky, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016 in The Meadows at Osborn Park.

She was born on November 9, 1931 in Bellefontaine, Ohio to the late Finland A. and Dorothea (Park) Corwin.

She was a 1949 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, and during high school she was trained as a dental assistant and worked for a local dentist. After high school she also worked at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, and Children's Hospital in Columbus.
Lela married Kenneth Fultz on March 21, 1953, and they lived their lives in Columbus, Ohio until moving to Sandusky in 1972. Here, Lela raised her daughters and also became a tireless volunteer for both the church and the community.

She served as a leader of the MOPS program for Zion Lutheran Church, a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, and was a member of the Women of the Church. She was instrumental in the purchase of a church van and installing the elevator for handicapped members. She was also on the Building Committee for the addition to the church. Where there was a job to be done, Lela did it!
In the community, she also volunteered in the St. Mary's Supper program held at the Congregational Church, Care and Share, and Sandusky City Schools, working as a reader for Carol Albert's classroom. She was also a founding member of the MS Society, where she received a Register Community Service Award in 1977. One of her biggest loves was being a Girl Scouts Leader and Trainer for the area Girl Scouts.

Lela is survived by her devoted husband, Kenneth; five daughters, Kathy (Dennis) Kotz, of S. Carolina, Sally (Lee) Carter, Nancy (Tom) Kinsel, and Linda (Jeff) Kerst, all of Sandusky, and Carol (Bob) Hoerig, of Clyde; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Nejedly; and grandson, Bobby Kotz.

At Lela's request, cremation will take place. A celebration of her life will be on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Pastor Ralph Schibler will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lela's name to Girl Scouts of Erie County, c/o One Girl Scout Way, Macedonia, OH 44056 or to Meals on Wheels (where she was a "co-pilot" for many years with her husband), 620 E. Water St., Sandusky, OH 44870.
