Raymond L. Cole

Raymond L. Cole, 91, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2016, in Fisher-Titus Medical Center.

He was born May 15,1925 in Wakeman, Ohio, to the late Frank E. and Lizzie J. (Austin) Cole, and was a lifelong area resident.

Ray was a 1943 graduate of Norwalk High School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving in the European Theater during W.W. II. He was a member of the 8th Air Force, 303rd Bomb Group in Molesworth, England, received the Purple Heart Medal, and was a Prisoner of War in Germany. Ray was a member and Deacon of the Norwalk First Presbyterian Church.

He was a former employee of Friedley's Market, was a Mail Carrier for the Norwalk Post Office, Crow Lumber Company, and Gardiner's Cardinal Market. Ray was a life member of Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Norwalk, Ohio, and was a life member of the Caterpillar Club.

He enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and major league baseball, stock car racing, watching his grandchildren's sporting and school activities, going out to eat, and spending time with his family.

Ray is survived by his children, Jeanne R. Singer of Norwalk, Ohio, William S. (Robin Thrash) Cole of Norwalk, Ohio, and John C. Cole of Norwalk, Ohio, by 4 grandchildren, Jason Singer, Andrew Wolf, Katie Mankin, and Zachary Thrash, and by 3 great grandchildren, Paige, Jennifer, and Brady Singer, and one soon to be born.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilene R. Cole in 2000, by his daughters, Nancy Wolf in 1992, and Patricia Rae Cole in infancy, by 2 great grandsons, Jacob and Levi Wolf, by his sisters, Nellie Divers, Ella Rice, and Patricia Rae Cole in infancy, and by his brothers, George, Harry, Claude, and Donald Cole.

Friends may call on Sunday, August 7, 2016 from 2:00 p .m. to 4:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, where funeral service will be held on Monday, August 8, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Adrian Doll, Pastor of the Norwalk First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will be in Wakeman Cemetery.
