Paul Alvin Meyer, 83, Fremont, died Wednesday October 19, 2016 at the Bethesda Care Center, Fremont following a brief illness.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, on April 23, 1933, Paul was the youngest son of Frederick Wilbur Meyer and Inez (Burns) Meyer. His natural brothers were Charles Burns Meyer and John Wilbert Meyer. Paul was a long time resident of Fremont.

At the age of eleven Paul chose to reside with his foster parents Granville E. and Emma E. Pitts. That decision created a new family bond lasting for the rest of his life. Affectionately nicknamed Pete, he was the brother of Edward E. Pitts, Robert L. Pitts and Larry J. Pitts.

Mr. Meyer worked as a maintenance repairman for Harbor Manufacturing Company, Genoa, Ohio, retiring in 1983. His passion for repairing anything served him well both at work and at home. From heavy machinery to welding to electricity to motor repair, Pete always seemed to be at ease with even the most daunting task. His kindness and willingness to help others less fortunate were hallmarks of his life's journey.

Mr. Meyer is survived by his brother Larry, sisters-in-law Laurie Pitts, Carol Pitts and Phyllis (Pitts) Thomsen and many nephews and nieces.

At the request of Mr. Meyer a cremation has taken place with a private family service being held at a later date. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is handling the arrangements.
