Ara Lou (Smith) Waldock

Ara Lou (Smith) Waldock, 86, residing in Sandusky, passed away February 16, 2017 at home surrounded by her sons.

Ara Lou Waldock was born in East Aurora, NY to the late Louis E. and Ara L. (Lilly) Smith.

Ara Lou was born in NY but grew up in Port Clinton. She graduated from Port Clinton High School and later from Lake Erie College in 1953. She was active in Sandusky where she lived a full and wonderful life. Her influence can be seen at St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was a member for nearly 60 years. Ara Lou was involved with the local Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts with her late husband, Bill. She is a past president of the Sandusky Library Board, where she spearheaded the opening of the Follett House Museum with her friends, Helen Hansen and Virginia Steinemann. She was also a member of PEO Chapter BE and a Mayflower Descendant.

She was passionate about flowers, her friends and family and her faith in God.

Ara Lou is survived by her sons, William (Jennie Heine) and Robert (Erin) Waldock; grandchildren, William Jr. (Kathleen Congemi) and Azure Waldock, and Sierra (Joel) Terry; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives; a tireless and compassionate group of doctors, nurses and caregivers she considered family, and countless dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Ara Lou is preceded in death by her husband, William H. Waldock; her daughter, Leslie Ann Waldock; granddaughter, Avery Reece Waldock; sister, Katherine Seieroe, and brothers, Leo and Bob Smith.

At Ara Lou's request there will be no visitation or funeral services. Cremation will take place and a private family celebration of life will take place with the Rev. Merlin Jacobs officiating.
