Jean A. Springer

Jean A. Springer, 85, Sandusky, died Monday, February 20, 2017, in Firelands Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born October 7, 1931, in Sandusky, the daughter of Frederick and Gertrude (Behnke) Crecelius and was proudly one of "The 49'ers" (a member of the Sandusky High School graduating class of 1949).

She enjoyed her outings with the High School Girls Club, a close-knit band of friends who were such a blessing to Jean over the years. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed brightening others' days.

Jean was a member of Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, and her strong faith in Jesus was evident in her daily life. She taught elementary Sunday School at church. She celebrated all living things. She had a tender heart for animals, and nurtured plants in her greenhouse. She also had a knack for photographing skyscapes, and kept a regular journal, on the weather, her family and her faith. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Lynda (Michael) Ajoury, Lakewood, Ohio, Cindy (David) Brink, Sandusky, and Dianne Springer, Willard; grandchildren, Bryan and Christopher Enoch, Ryan Brink, Abby (Dominic) Will and Kenny Springer; great-grandchildren, Shannon, Alicia, Jayden and Dale Springer and Kane Will; and brother, Tom (Mary) Crecelius, Norwalk.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry A. Smith, in 1963, and Dale K. Springer, in 2006; son, Harry F. Smith, in 1980; mother, Gertrude Hough; father, Frederick Crecelius, and great-granddaughter, Morgan Springer, in 2008.

Friends may call on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 10 A.M. until time of funeral services at 12 Noon in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Dale Thomas will officiate. Private burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Jean's name may be made to the Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior St., Sandusky, OH 44870, or to one's favorite charity.
