Luther C. Vanzant, age 86, of Castalia, died Wednesday night, July 27, 2011, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, following a brief illness.

He was born December 11, 1924, in St. Charles, West Virginia.  Luther was a member of First Baptist Church of Clyde, where he taught Sunday School for many years and served as a Deacon.  He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from Ford Motor Co. in 1986.  He was a member of the Sandusky Amvets and enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by his wife Eula (Owsley) Vanzant; daughter Priscilla (Matt) Vanzant-Hatfield, Castalia; son Phelix (Kristine) Vanzant, Sandusky; five grandchildren Surah, Phylicia, Lurah, Kayla, and Kodie; two soon to be great grandchildren; brother Green Vanzant; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and best friend Whitey Howard.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents Phelix and Elizabeth (Neff) Vanzant; brother J.B. Vanzant; sister Vida Fouch; and several other brothers and sisters.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Sunday, July 31, 2011, at Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, where services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM.  The Rev. Garry Sorrell Jr. will officiate.  Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park.
