Dorothy L. Givens, 62, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2017 in Firelands Regional Medical Center.

She was welcomed into her Heavenly Father's arms after fighting a lengthy illness.

Dorothy was fondly known as Dot, Dodie, and Mama G. She was born to Beverly Jean Schrad and Don Welsh on January 29, 1955 in Omaha, Nebraska. She was adopted in 1958 by Clemence Schrad. Dorothy earned her GED from Lakeview High School in 1980 and Associates in Business Administrations from Argubright Business College in 1981, both in Battle Creek, Michigan.

She was joined in the union of marriage to Charles Givens Sr. on May 14, 1999. She was a member of Spirit and Truth Ministries under Pastors Tracy and Sherma Shoemo. Dorothy held various positions, including: receptionist, bus driver, assistant school teacher, and homemaker. But her most prized titles were Momma, Auntie, Wife, Grandma, and Sister.

Dorothy enjoyed making personalized bookmarks with Bible verses and inspirational quotes, writing journals about her life experiences and her journey with her Heavenly "Daddy". Dorothy made it her business to treat everyone as if they were her very own family.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Charles Givens Sr.; sisters, Cindi Cook (Jeff Peterson) of Buckmer, Missouri and Rami Alford, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; brothers, Kenneth Schrad and Jon Schrad, both of Omaha Nebraska; daughters, Tonia (James) Fox, of Sandusky and Kisha (Orlando Bell) Schrad, of Battle Creek, Michigan; bonus sons, Steve Young, of Battle Creek, Michigan and Charles Givens, of Omaha, Nebraska; bonus daughter, Jacqueline Hale, of Ypsilanti, Michigan; granddaughters, Desirae, Maia, Jayda, Oriana, Alana, and Pe'Tience; grandsons, James, Steward (Kamiran), Malcolm, Paris (Aireon), Malik, Miles, Orlando, and Micaiah; greatgrandchildren, Jayde, Kane, and Asher; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Zechariah James Fox; mother, Beverly Jean Schrad; step-father, Clemence Norman Schrad; and grandparents, Doris Kemp and Francis Kemp.

At Dorothy's request, cremation will take place. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Spirit and Truth Ministries, 910 W. Madison Street, Sandusky.
