Monica Deubel, 87, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday morning, June 8, 2017 at her residence after a brief illness.
Monica was born on May 10, 1930 in Hamilton, OH, the only child of the late Harry F. and Mary Ann (Hoffman) Deubel.
She belonged to St. Mary Church in Hamilton and attended St. Mary's grade school through 8th grade. Monica was a 1948 graduate from Notre Dame High School and earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Cincinnati and her CAS from Syracuse University. Monica taught and supervised physically impaired children in Hamilton and Toledo schools. She retired as the Director of Special Education programs in Toledo.
She retired to Sandusky in 1982 and joined St. Mary's Parish and continued being of service where she saw a need. This included a behind the scenes role in RCIA, PSR, visiting the homebound, being a good "woman Friday" in helping with the many tasks that occur around the rectory and the parish office. Her great love for Christ in the Eucharist drew her to be of service as a Eucharistic minister lector, unofficial greeter. It was during these times while she was in church, where she usually had her conversations with God.
Her great love for children carried over to the children at St. Mary's school. It was there in school that she helped "her kids" by tutoring those who needed a little extra help.
Monica is survived by extended family, cousins and her friends.
Friends may call on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 9:00 am until the time of Mass at 10:00 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Father Phil Feltman will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting with arrangements.
