John Michael "Mike" Hepker

John Michael "Mike" Hepker, 76, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 3:37p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in Firelands Regional Medical Center.

He was a resident of the Ohio Veterans Home for 25 years and worked on the grounds crew. Mike was born on August 31, 1940 in Bryan, Ohio, the son of Raymond L. Hepker and Mildred B. (Cotterman) Hepker. He graduated from Bryan High School, and then enlisted in the Army where he served for 6years, including multiple tours in Vietnam.

He worked in the construction field, doing carpentry and cement for many years. Mike was an avid fisherman who served on the BOD for the Ohio Huskie Muskie club for several years. He frequented Lake Erie and went by the handle "Muskie Mike" on the radio. Mike was a member at Erie County Conservation League. He was a regular on the range where he enjoyed shooting his various military rifles.

Mike is survived by his son, Aaron (Lisa) Kirkingburg, of Newark, Ohio; daughters, Jonie (Michael) Gibbs, of Belmont, Mich., Cassey Hardy, of Stryker, Ohio, and Crissy Hepker, of West Unity, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and many friends at the Ohio Veterans Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Jean Lackey and Jane Philby.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Ohio Veterans Home, followed by a private, family graveside service in Fountain Grove Cemetery.
