Helene May Thompson

Helene May Thompson, 86, residing in Sandusky, formerly of Mansfield, died Friday, July 28, 2017, in the Cleveland Clinic.

She was born on November 9, 1930 in Mansfield, OH and was a life-long resident until the last 5 years that she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Sandusky.

Helene graduated from Mansfield Senior High and then Mansfield Business College. In her 20's she worked as a secretary for Ingersoll-Humphries, Gorman-Rupp, and was a dance instructor for Arthur Murray's Dance Studio. Dancing was her passion, and was the way she met her husband of 20 years, Harold Dean Thompson, the father of her three loving children. Helene also worked as a secretary under Linda Lynn, whom she greatly admired, at the Rehabilitation Services of North Central Ohio for 14 years, and then for Dr. William Schonberg, before she retired at the age of 72. Helene was a Jewish born, born again Christian, and a member of the Sar Shalom Messianic Congregation, which is a blend of Jews and Gentiles who believe the Yeshua-Jesus is the Messiah and their Savior. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends in the Mansfield area.

She is survived by her son, Ronald Dean Thompson, Lexington, OH; daughter, Kay Lee Ellen LeClair, and son-in-law, Dan S. LeClair, Sandusky; nine grandchildren; special mention of her grandsons, Rocky Dean Thompson, Mansfield, Danny Eugene Skelton, Jr., Sandusky, and Robert Dean LeClair, Lawrenceburg, KY; fifteen great-grandchildren; special mention of her great-granddaughter, Audreyanna Vanbarriger, Mt. Vernon, OH; and a great great grandson, Daniel, who she felt blessed to hold before her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen B. Rand and Ralph Udell Rand, who was killed in WWII, brothers, Ralph L. Rand and Riley Rand; daughter, Laura Denise Vandayburg; and grandson, Army Spc. Allen Jeffrey "A.J." Vandayburg, who was killed in Iraq, April 9, 2004.

Helen passed from this life at peace with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We will celebrate her life, as she wished, with a graveside service for her family and friends, Friday August 11, 2017 at 11 A.M. in Mansfield Memorial Park, Ontario, OH, at the Garden of Gethsemane, where she will rest beside her beloved daughter, Laura.

Thanks, appreciation, and blessing's to Toft Funeral Home Crematory, Sandusky for their compassionate assistance with the arrangements.

Contributions can be made to Sar Shalom Messianic Congregation, 1650 S. Main St., Mansfield, OH. 44907.
