Katie B. Amison-Keahey

Katie B. Amison-Keahey, 87, Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 18, 2017, at Firelands Regional Medical Center surrounded by love ones.

She was born in Itta Bena, Mississippi, June 25, 1930, to the union of Eugene Wolfork and Leebella Dennis Wolfork.

Katie attended Leflore County Mississippi Schools. She united in marriage to Cornelius Amison Sr. and moved to Sandusky, Ohio, in 1952.

On December 1, 1978, she married Samuel (Bojack) Keahey, Jr. and lived happily in this union until his passing on June 30, 1987.

Katie held various jobs. She was a restaurant cook, dry cleaning assistant and dietary aide. She retired in 1990 from the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky after 17 years of service.

Katie was a long standing member of Porter's Memorial C.M.E. Church where she served on the Stewardess Board. Most recently she was associated with Greater Faith Church, Sandusky.

She is survived by her seven daughters Freda Ibemer, Lee (Ron) Watts, Carolyn (Aaron) Vaughn, Elnora Cook, Queen Ella Amison, Jacqueline J. (Darrell McKenzie) Amison, and Takesha (David) Turner; her three sons Cornelius (Arline) Amison, Stanley Keahey of Sandusky, and Douglas (Sandra) Madison, Fremont, Ohio. Katie is survived by her Aunt Millie Stanberry of Greenwood, Mississippi; Cousins Jacqueline Woolfork and Barbara Woolfork of Indianola, Mississippi; Richard Dennis and Bishop Jesse L. Dennis of Memphis, Tennessee; grandson Demtreus A. Keahey; and great-grandson Takye S. Fenderson, Ohio. She also is survived by her special friend Harriet Russell who she jokingly referred to as "The Widow" and her brother-in-law Joe Keahey. Katie was all about family and was proud of having six generations consisting of 30 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren, 31 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild. She also leaves those who loved her dearly to celebrate her memory a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents Eugene Wolfork and Leebella Dennis Wolfork; her second husband, Samuel (Bojack) Keahey Jr; twin sons James L. Hammon and
Jimmy L. Hammon; and sons Mark Anthony Amison, Michael G. Amison, Booker T. White; grandson Calvin (Mann) M. Harper Jr; sisters Emma Wolfork and Elnora Garrett; niece
Juanita P. Walls - Shirills; cousins Mary Elizabeth (May) Garrett, Annie Dell Logan and
Lemmie Johnson; special in-laws Willie and Mary Alice Amison, and Estell Sr and, Ida Amison and son-in-law Lynn E. Cook.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 24, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Viewing hours will also be from 10 A.M. until time of funeral services at 12 P.M. Noon Monday at Porter's Memorial CME Church, 1722 Third Street. Officiating will be Katie's cousins, Pastor Calvin Cage and Elder Sheila Jordan of Maryland. Entombment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
