Gary D. "Woody" Wood

Gary D. "Woody" Wood, 63, of Castalia passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at his residence.

He was born September 27, 1954 in Sandusky and was a 1972 graduate of Margaretta High School.

Woody was employed for 31 years at the former New Departure-Hyatt, Division of General Motors prior to his retirement in 2005. Woody was a member of the UAW Local 913, an active member of its Retirees Section, the AMVETS Post 17, and American Legion Post 83.

He enjoyed playing cards and visiting casinos, especially in Las Vegas. He also liked to travel the Amish country. Woody was an avid fan of Cleveland sports teams, especially the Indians. He loved his miniature dachshunds. Woody was a handyman and always willing to help others. He enjoyed his Genesee beer, socializing, and having a good time.

He is survived by one daughter, Jillyn Joy Wood; one brother, William (Wilma) Wood, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Keegan and Rhonda Rice all of Castalia; two brothers-in-law, George Rice, Castalia and Dale (Denise) Rice, Fremont; one nephew, Mark Wood of Toledo; two godchildren, Halle and Adam Rice both of Castalia; special cousins, Neil and Diane Stegman of North Carolina; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and his beloved dog, Lola.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years whom he married November 21, 1981, Krissie Lynn (Rice) Wood in 2015; his parents, William and Willowdean (Lambert) Wood, Sr.; and two brothers-in-law, Mike Rice and Bob Keegan.

Friends may call Sunday, October 29, 2017 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky and on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 9:30 AM until time of funeral service at 10:30 AM in the Grace Lutheran Church, 203 S. Washington Street, Castalia. The Rev. Kathleen Suggett will officiate. Burial will be in the Castalia Cemetery.
